This board has four memory slots that accept 128 GB DDR4 memory clocked at 5333 MHz, but most DDR4 motherboards only allow memory overclocking up to 4800 MHz.

When you take off the VRM heat spreaders, you will see 15-phase design voltage regulators configured in 14+1 phases and 80A MOSFETs for Vcore.

Even though it’s a budget motherboard, please don’t get fooled by it because it can easily overclock any high-end Intel Alder Lake processor without any problem.

The VRM heatsink of this board looks small, but it has deep grooves that increase the surface area to get better cooling.

There is an IO cover over the heatsinks, while there are eight USB3 ports on the rear IO, including the Gen2x2 Type-C (20 Gbps) and Gen2 Type-A (10 Gbps) Gen1 Type-A (5 Gbps) ports.

The rear side of this motherboard has only six USB Type-A ports which are not enough for most gamers. On top of the memory slots, there are fan headers and a total of 7x fan headers, 3x ARGB, and 1x RGB headers.

The storage options on this board are quite interesting: four M.2 slots with heat spreaders, all running at PCIe 4.0 mode, and four SATA3 slots. There are four M.2 slots on this motherboard, from which three has their heat spreaders while one of them lacks it and all run at PCIe 4.0 mode, and it also has four SATA3 slots.

The I/O features are better than most Z690 motherboards, but you don’t get as many ports and slots as the CARBON WiFi. The rear side of this motherboard has an IO shroud with some RGB elements and USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C, 2x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A and 4x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports.

Next to the VRM section, four memory slots on this motherboard support 128 GB of DDR5 memory and have locks on the single side. The memory overclocking on this board is not like the other high-end options listed for DDR5 5000 MHz, one of the lowest values we’ve seen in this chipset.

The bottom left of this motherboard has Realtek ALC1220 codec, which got covered in Crystal sound cover; this controller was available in previous generation flagship entries and is good but not great. There are two full-length PCIe x16 slots which run in PCIe 5.0 and 3.0 modes.

This motherboard’s overall performance and price are great, but the number of USB ports on the rear IO and four SATA slots is insufficient. Also, this board lacks integrated Wi-Fi, but still, I would say if you had a low budget for your build, it would be the best motherboard for i7 12700K in 2022.

The board comes with multiple heatsinks on the VRMs and the dual m.2 slots which make sure that the temps stay down while the PC is operational and offers quite low temps due to the large surface area of the heat sinks. Since this is a mid-range board it comes with a decent amount of features such as PCIe 5.0 x16 Slot, ASRock USB 3.2 Gen2, Nichicon 12K Black Caps, 2.5G LAN, an m.2 key for onboard Wifi, ASRock Steel Slot, ASRock Hyper M.2, ASRock Super Alloy, and the ASRock Full Spike Protection for the LAN port and USB ports, making it quite the package.

The board comes in a black and white color scheme with white being the dominant color due to the color of the Heatsinks and they occupy a large area on the board. The black and white form a nice aesthetic look which gives the board a premium feel. To set a color scheme of your choice the Polychrome RGB software utility gives you full control over the color and the effects so that your PC has a pleasing visual outlook.

When I took the motherboard out of the box, I first noticed that the company had completely refreshed its looks compared to the previous generation’s black and orange appearance. There are a lot of heat spreaders on this motherboard with a dark theme, and RGB elements make it appealing. This motherboard has four memory slots that accept 128 GB of DDR5 memory with locks on double sides. Gigabyte lists the speed of memory modules up to 6400 MHz, but it depends on the CPU and memory kits, and we’ve tested this motherboard with slightly lower memory clocks.

It has one USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C (20 Gbps), 1x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C (10 Gbps), 5x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A (10 Gbps), 4x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports. As it’s an E-ATX motherboard, there are five M.2 slots with a single heat spreader covering all of the slots and the chipset, while the top slot comes with its dedicated heat sink.

When you take off the VRM heatsinks, you will find 22 phase regulators, of which 19 are dedicated for Vcore and 105A MOSFETs. I’ve reviewed a couple of Z690 motherboards in the past few weeks, and 1,995 Amps were the highest on this motherboard for overclocking a high-end or flagship processor. One thing I’m a fan of on this motherboard is the IO cover, which looks nice and covers the IO section, the VRM heatsinks, and the ports in this section.

There are no PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots on this motherboard, but all run on PCIe 4.0 mode except one, which uses PCIe 3.0 mode. The top PCIe x16 slot on this motherboard is fed through the processor and uses the PCIe 5.0 mode, while the bottom slot sources its lanes from the chipset and runs on PCIe 3.0 mode.

This motherboard is compatible with AMD Crossfire, which can accept multiple graphics card configurations.
