GTA 6 Coming Out? Release Date, Gameplay, Map, Rumors

Nine years ago, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto V, which became the most prominent name in the Sandbox genre and the second highest-selling game of all time.

Despite the breathtaking experience that GTA V brought to gamers, its days of glory are coming to an end as fans are eagerly waiting for the next game in the franchise. Although we have been hearing about this next-generation GTA game for many years now, a proper confirmation has come from Rockstar Games earlier this year.

In this article we will be looking at the latest updates we have on Grand Theft Auto VI and leaks from the insiders that made their way into the mainstream media.

Is GTA 6 Coming Out?

Beginning with conceivable release dates, it is important to give you some background. While GTA 5 was released in 2013, Rockstar couldn’t quickly direct its full concentration toward developing GTA 6. It started working on GTA 6 in 2014, yet in the meantime had the little matter of Red Dead Redemption 2 to make, not to mention the PC, PS4 and Xbox One variants of GTA 5, and the PC and Google Stadia variants of Red Dead Redemption 2.

In February 2022, Rockstar games officially confirmed that GTA 6 is in the works and they are going to do better than their previous works.

The real question that arises here is when exactly are we going to see GTA 6 and to answer that we resort to one of the most renowned GTA leakers, Chris Klippel.

According to Klippel, we will see GTA 6 out between the second half of 2024 and the first half of 2025. Interestingly these claims coincide with various other reputable leakers further making it more of a big deal.

GTA 6 Protagonist & Playable Characters

It is rumoured that the character-switching mechanic from GTA 5 will in fact return in GTA 6 and we will be able to switch between different characters throughout the game. The interesting thing however is that our roster of playable characters might include a female character of Latin descent. While some people believe it will be the first time any GTA game includes a female character, it is not factual as the first game in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto 1 allowed you to play as 8 different characters 4 of which were women and one had a Latin descent. The female protagonist is reported to be one half of the reallife iconic criminal duo, Bonnie and Clyde.

GTA 6 Setting and Gameplay

According to Tom Henderson, GTA 6 will take place in the fictional version of Miami known as Vice City and contrary to previous rumours, it will be set in modern times. Tom Henderson is considered one of the most authentic video game leakers out there and his leaks regarding GTA 6 have actually been backed up by Jason Schrier who is the most prominent name in game journalism and also working for Bloomberg.

Tom also said that GTA 6 is being developed under the code name Project Americas since originally the game was rumoured to feature three different cities all over North and South America. Although in recent updates we have heard that Rockstar decided to scale down for now and is going for one city for its initial release.

Furthermore, he said that the map will be constantly evolving with new cities being added later on through DLCs and other updates just like the seasonal events we see in Fortnite.

What’s New in GTA 6?

It is pretty clear at this point that Rockstar games have high ambitions for GTA 6 and it is duly justified as everyone has high expectations for this next-generation sequel of the GTA franchise. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar games broke its silence and reassured the fans that the next GTA will live up to their expectations.

“With the development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases.”

- CEO Take-Two Interactive Strauss Zelnick

  1. Interestingly this dedication can be seen translating into practical work as there have been reports of Rockstar using new technology relating to motion matching and machine learning in GTA 6. On 5th May 2022, a patent was filed by Take-Two interactive to acquire the exclusive rights for this technology invented by the same people working on GTA 6. The said patent is known as “Virtual Navigation in a gaming environment” and it is designed to add more realism to non-person characters (NPCs) and traffic giving them intelligence of a sort to make complex decisions according to specific situations.
  2. According to Bloomberg, GTA 6 will have more interior locations than any of the previous GTA games adding more intricate textures to amplify the player’s experience.
  3. Another leak indicates that GTA 6 might be including some satirical version of cryptocurrency just like they did with stock markets like NASDAQ in GTA 5.
  4. An older leak from 2019 also predicted that the in-game radio might include songs like, “Numb” By Rihanna and Eminem and “Domino Dancing” by Pet Shop Boys.

Redevising Policies

Recently Rockstar games adopted more progressive policies calling out the crunch culture among the game developers and providing them more work-friendly environment. According to Jason Schrier, the company took extra precautions to terminate its frat-boy culture and transformed it into a real company

In an article by Jason on Bloomberg, he says that Rockstar Games has adopted a more politically sensitive approach in their recent years which can be seen in instances like elimination of transphobic jokes in the latest console release of Grand Theft Auto V and diminishing its gender pay gap. Moreover, he said that GTA VI developers are being more careful not to include jokes about marginalized groups as compared to its previous games.

While progressiveness is certainly a good thing, fans are concerned about how this new policy can affect the game. Grand Theft Auto as in the name, is based on a criminal theme and uses satire to portray an image of American culture at its worst. Violence seems to be deep into its core and taking a step back now in spite of political sensitivity puts the ingenuity of the game at stake. A morally conscious drug dealer is not something that adds up to the theme of Grand Theft Auto making it a satire of itself.

On the other hand, according to Take-Two Interactive, Grand Theft Auto 6 is in full production and every Rockstar studio across the world is working on GTA 6. Rockstar games confirmed that it has halted the development of newer updates for Red Dead Redemption in order to get more work force for GTA 6. Furthermore, it is rumoured that the production for GTA 4 and RDR 1 Remastered have also been stopped in order to focus on GTA 6.

Platform for GTA 6

Presumably, some other more dominant leaks about GTA 6 were regarding the platforms it’s probably going to be released on. Clearly, GTA 5 emerged toward the last part of a console generation, coming out on PS3 and Xbox 360, then, at that point, it got re-released with enhanced execution and interface on the following arrangement of consoles.

However, obviously, that pattern will not be rehashed with GTA 6. The leak recommends that the game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S.

Notwithstanding, considering that Red Dead Redemption 2 got some margin to come to PC players than GTA 5 did quite a while back, it would be marginally astounding in the event that GTA 6 doesn’t likewise get released on PC in the span of a year of its release on consoles.

GTA 6 System Requirements

Even though there hasn’t been any official affirmation for this, experts have come up with estimated recommended and minimum specifications required to run Grand Theft Auto VI on PC. Note that the official requirements may slightly vary from the estimations since Rockstar is rumored to feature new technology to enhance the experience for GTA VI.

  1. Memory: 16 GB
  2. Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
  3. CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K
  4. File Size: 150 GB
  5. OS: Windows 10

GTA 6 Minimum Requirements

  1. Memory: 8 GB
  2. Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660
  3. CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K
  4. File Size: 150 GB
  5. OS: Windows 10

Trailer for GTA 6

There has been no official trailer from Rockstar Games as of 24th August 2022. As per TezFunz2, we might be able to see some indication for GTA 6 in December 2022 after the winter update of GTA Online. Moreover, according to Tom Henderson, we can get an official trailer for GTA 6 in late 2022 or early 2023.

Final Words

Taking everything into account, the leaks we have right now suggest that GTA 6 won’t be coming out soon, essentially not until 2024. Rockstar addresses these delays with various explanations like backing down on crunch culture and setbacks caused by the global pandemic. However, taking this much time attaches a ton of different expectations to the game that if not met, will have a drastic effect on the gaming industry, let alone Take-Two Interactive.

On the other hand, if Rockstar manages to meet the expectations, not only is it safe to assume that it would be one of the best games out there but also it would dispose of the requirement for another Rockstar game for 10 years or somewhere in the vicinity.
