A graphics card is the most crucial component of a PC when it comes to gaming. If you couple a low-end graphics card with a high-end PC, you will not be able to play games optimally at all and suffer from low FPS. The current-generation graphics cards are much better than what was offered a couple of years ago. Both AMD and NVIDIA are now competing fairly with each other and we have the likes of RTX 3090 and RX 6900 XT. The prices of the graphics cards have hugely dropped in the last couple of months too, which is a win-win situation for gamers. Also, this can also be said in term of the motherboards too.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the latest addition to the Ryzen 5000-series processors and is unlike any other processor released by the Red Team so far. This is the first Ryzen processor that comes with AMD 3D V-Cache technology, which has resulted in three times the size of the L3 cache in the processor. Coupled with an eight-core, sixteen-thread configuration, the results in gaming are fabulous and surpass any other Ryzen processor from the 5000 series if paired with top-of-the-line quality RAM kit.

Best Graphics Card for Ryzen 7 5800X3D Reviews

MSI Gaming RTX 4090 Gaming X Trio

MSI Gaming RTX 4090 Gaming X Trio

  • +Excellent overall performance.
  • +Excellent ray tracing performance.
  • +Runs cool.
  • Extremely expensive.
  • Very high power draw.
  • Bulky.

The RTX 4090 is one the of the fastest, if not the fastest graphics card available in the market today. It is based on Nvidia’s latest “Ada Lovelace” architecture and marks one of the greatest generational leaps in performance without proportional increase in price. The RTX 4090 comes with an MSRP of $1600 which is only hundred bucks more than the price at which the RTX 3090 was released.

Despite its huge power demand of 450W, one of the most surprising things about this card is that it doesn’t get hot. To keep temperatures low, it features a massive heatsink around it. Don’t take the word “massive” lightly here. The card is actually quite large both in mass and volume. Roughly speaking, the weight of this card is only slightly less than 5 pounds while its length almost touches 1 foot. Both these facts mean that this card won’t just fit inside any PC case. You would want to invest in a chassis that is both spacious and sturdy, if you have decided on buying this card.

Now let’s come to the good part. This card is wicked fast, literally. Throw any game in its face and it will churn out very high frame rates at very high settings with ray tracing enabled. This holds true even for a game that is as badly optimized as the CyberPunk 2077. Besides gaming, this card is also an excellent option for content creators in shaving a significant amount of time off from their workflow, if they can afford this card.

The Ryzen 7 5800X is a top of the line CPU among AMD’s offerings. This, coupled with the excellent performance of this graphics card, makes it clear that the RTX 4090 is the best GPU for Ryzen 7 5800X, especially if you are a performance enthusiast.

Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT Gaming

Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT Gaming

  • +Relatively more compact than the above cards.
  • +Cool operation.
  • +Excellent overall performance.
  • Worse price to performance ratio than RX 7900XTX
  • Ray tracing performance is noticeably worse than RTX 4080

The RX 7900XT is one AMD’s flagship graphics card released in mid-December 2022. It is based on AMD’s latest and significantly more efficient RDNA3 architecture. The card was released at an MSRP of $900 which is considerably lower than the other cards that we have reviewed in this list. However, the RX 7900XTX which comes at only an additional $100 offers better price to performance ratio than the RX 7900XT by providing more SMs (96 vs 84) and RT (96 vs 84) cores and a higher boost clock speed (2400 vs 2500 MHz).

With dimensions of 10.88 x 4.44 x 2.02 in, this card is considerably more compact than the ones that we reviewed earlier. It also has a lower TDP rating (300W) than its competitor, the RTX 4080 (350W). 300W is still a lot of power, however, and it is recommended that you use a 750W or higher PSU.

Being a flagship graphics card, gaming performance on this card is, without doubt, excellent. On highly demanding AAA titles like CyberPunk 2077, the card manages to maintain 60+ FPS at 4K settings. However, as soon as ray tracing is enabled, the FPS count drops to 20 FPS which is almost literally unplayable. In contrast, the RTX 4080 manages to maintain 30 FPS which though not a stellar frame rate, is still playable.

While an excellent card in its own right, ray tracing is an area where AMD’s cards considerably lag behind Nvidia. If this is an important factor in your purchase decision, consider going with the more expensive RTX 4080.

Best Overall Graphics Card

The Gaming X trio series has gained quite a lot of traction and a loyal fanbase over the years, people have come to expect a lot from MSI and they don’t disappoint their customers ever and always deliver on the standard that they have set for themselves.

The MSI RTX 3090 GAMING X TRIO is one of the fastest GPUs that are available in the consumer market right now. The Founder Edition RTX 3090 gets overshadowed in performance by other RTX 3090 graphics cards as it performs better and has better overclocking potential as well. MSI has made this possible by raising the power limit and the boost clocks so that the card can deliver the extra performance over the Founder’s edition.

Under the hood, the card comes with 10496 Cuda Cores, a 1785 MHz Boost clock, a humongous 24 GB GDDR6X VRAM, and a TDP of 370W, this GPU monstrosity comes is based on the Ampere architecture and comes with 2nd gen RT cores as well as 3rd Gen Tensor cores that translate to real-world performance which lets you run games at 8K 60 FPS even which is just bonkers if you ask me. It comes with 4 ports for display, 3x Display ports, and 1 HDMI 2.1 port which can power up a 4K 120 Hz display should you hook one with your setup.

While it gives you the ultimate performance that you can expect from the GPU, it needs to be kept cool to perform at the extreme level. MSI has included several thermal solutions to keep the card temps down while it’s dishing out those frames.  It comes with the trademark TORX Fan 4.0 tech, a Core pipe, and Fin + Flow control. Furthermore, the card also comes with a close-quarter built-in design, thermal padding, and Zero Frozr tech.

The MSI RTX 3090 GAMING X TRIO is a tri-fan card as made apparent by its name and MSU gives you complete control over the card fans and the RGB of the card so that while it performs it looks and matches with your PC’s color scheme as well. The card is a gaming monstrosity and rightly so, but the only downside is that it comes with an expensive price tag. Nonetheless, it will be a perfect fit for pairing it up with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and a high-end AM4 motherboard that extracts the maximum out of it.

Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6800 XT

Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6800 XT

Best Value Graphics Card

While Nvidia has been running and dominating the market in the high-end Enthusiast market, AMD has been usually catering to the budget gamer and giving price-to-performance options to its consumers. This time, however, AMD took the fight to Nvidia’s turf and gave it tough competition with its 6000 series GPU.

Based on the RDNA 2 architecture Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6800 XT is a solid 4K card that comes with a Boost clock of 2310 MHz, 4608 stream processors, and a massive 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM that translates to the real-world performance that rivals the top end cards by Nvidia such as the 3080. Moreover, it features 72 Ray accelerators which are AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s proprietary tech Ray tracing cores that the company introduced with the 20 series.

Since the card is from Sapphire, how could Sapphire not include the features that it’s famous for such as dual ball bearing fans, fuse protection, and dual BIOS ensure quality and reliability? In the thermal department, the card comes with the SAPPHIRE Tri-X Cooling Technology which works with two fans spinning in one direction and the middle one spinning in the other to create a reverse air current so that heat can be dissipated in a quick and timely manner. This results in less temperature as well as noise reduction.

The card comes in a grey color with black fans with the Pulse Logo on the back of the card and in the center of the cards as well. It comes with a Beefy heat sink as well and the size of the card is pretty big so make sure you choose a case that has ample space. Overall, it’s a worthy 4K card and when you pair it up with a 5000 series processor like the Ryzen 7 5800x3D you will be able to turn on a performance boost feature as well known as AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM) which gives you as much as 10% in titles like Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Forza Horizon 4, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, and many others.

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming

Best 4K Graphics Card

Starting off the list is a powerful GPU that has all the horsepower you need to game at the extreme level and it comes from EVGA who have established themselves strongly in the gaming scene by giving out durable and quality products to PC enthusiasts who like to tinker and experiment with their PCs.

Coming in with a huge 12 GB GDDR6X VRAM and a boost clock of 1800 MHz, the card is fully 4K capable of running modern games at the ultra-preset. The card comes with ray tracing capable hardware that takes your gaming experience to the next level of immersion, thus further blurring the lines between games and reality.

EVGA has included a trio fan air-cooled design that has been optimized for maximum airflow and has reduced fan noise. Micro sensors and micro control processors are also included as part of the cooling solution of the card which makes it one of the best-performing aftermarket RTX 3080 on the market.

The card comes with a cooling design that is proprietary to EVGA and is known as the icx3 interactive cooling technology. It comes with airflow pockets so that air can move back and forth through the heatsink for faster heat dissipation. A larger copper base is present on the card that allows for more surface area coverage of the GPU and VRAM area.

The card comes with notable features such as second gen ray tracing cores, 3rd Gen tensor cores, DLSS, etc. It comes with an ARGB logo too and combined with the droplet look of the fans the GPU comes packed with features and performance that will let you take your gaming experience to the ultimate level. The size of this graphics card is slightly larger than the previous generation that’s why you need a large case for it.

It is a worthy contender for being included on the list as this card doesn’t only perform at the highest levels but looks good too. Surely, pairing it with a Ryzen 7 5800x3D will be a choice that you will be glad to make.

ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 OC Edition

ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 OC Edition

  • +Second only to the RTX 4090 in terms of performance
  • +Better performance to price ratio than RTX 4090
  • +Noticeably lower power consumption than the RTX 4090
  • Almost identical in size to RTX 4090 despite lower performance
  • High power consumption
  • Still very expensive

The RTX 4080 comes next in line in the series of the fastest graphics cards in terms of absolute performance. Like the 4090, this one too is based on the latest Ada Lovelace architecture featuring all the enhancements Nvidia has made over the predecessor, Ampere. The card comes with an MSRP of $1200 which is significantly lower than its superior, but still is bound to create a large hole in your pocket should you ever be able to find this card.

Like the RTX 3080, the RTX 4080 provides the sweet spot in terms of price to performance ratio. It might make some performance compromises but still is extremely fast for the requirements of most users. This performance reduction has the added benefit that this card consumes noticeably lower power (350W) than the RTX 4090 (450W).

The main drawback of this card is that despite performance compromises, at 12.3×5.35×2.13 inches and 4 pounds weight, it is almost the  same size as the RTX 4090. So, this card too requires massive PC cases to be adequately cooled or fitted inside.

In terms of gaming and rendering performance, the RTX 4080 is simply brilliant. Like the RTX 4090, it can easily produce very high frame rates owing to its huge number of CUDA cores and DLSS3 support. For instance, with a suitable CPU like the Ryzen 7 5800X, the RTX 4080 can easily maintain 90+ FPS at 4K settings on Metro Exodus, a demanding AAA title.

If price to performance ratio is your main criteria for choosing your graphics card, then the RTX 4080 is the best GPU for Ryzen 7 5800X. So yes, if you have the money, this card lies well within the territory of a proportional bang for every additional buck you spend.

ZOTAC Gaming RTX 3070 Ti Trinity OC

ZOTAC Gaming RTX 3070 Ti Trinity OC

Best Affordable Graphics Card

To finish off the list let me include a card that was launched recently by Nvidia to fill up the gap between 3070 and 3080, the RTX 3070 Ti Trinity OC edition by Zotac. This is a pure price-to-performance card targeting the high mid-range PC builders who want to game at the 2K resolution at the Ultra preset.

Coming with a Boost clock of 1800 MHz, 8 GB GDDR6X and a TDP of 290W, the card has all the power it needs to let you run modern titles in 2K and older ones at 4K too while dominating the competition in the 1080p gaming arenas. Since the card belongs to the 30 series and is based on the Ampere Architecture, it contains all the hardware the 30 series has to offer, such as 2nd gen RT cores, and 3rd gen Tensor cores, which will give you a PC experience that you will enjoy.

Zotac has always been mindful of the thermal design of its cards and even though it’s the base variant of the product lineup, that doesn’t mean that its any less, it comes with a triple fan heatsink that is quite beefy to look at and to top things off the company has included the IceStorm 2.0 cooling solution which connects the heatsink with 5 heat pipes that work together with the three fans to dissipate heat at a faster rate than its predecessors, the 20 series. For durability, Zotac has added a metal black plate which increases the overall rigidity of the card and prevents any GPU sag scenarios.

In the aesthetics department, it comes with two illuminated backlights that have been placed on the backplate and one on the front, lighting up the Zotac logos. To give you control over the card, you can get the Firestorm utility and monitor the temps, fan speeds, core clock, and various other tweaking options. It’s a high-performing card with good thermals and functionality that will not bottleneck the Ryzen 7 5800x3D processor and give you a future-proof PC that you can enjoy for a while, without feeling the need to upgrade.
